Logar’s Pol-e-Alam district roads in dire need of repair

The poor condition of the roads in Pol-e-Alam, the provincial capital of Logar, located in the eastern section of Afghanistan, has caused significant difficulties for both locals and travelers passing through from southeastern provinces.

The residents say that, due to the dilapidated streets, many drivers have been forced to use alternative routes.

Bilal Stanekzai, a resident of Pol-e-Alam, says that previous governments neglected the construction of the city’s roads. He adds, “The internal roads of Pol-e-Alam are in very bad condition because heavy vehicles have been using them, causing further damage. There has been no attention paid to rebuilding these roads.”

Another resident, Hezbullah, shares his frustration: “The roads are extremely damaged. I’ve been working here for six months, and due to the poor condition of the roads, traffic congestion has increased.”

Moreover, drivers cite the damaged roads as a major factor in a rise in traffic accidents within the city.

Rohullah, a driver in Pol-e-Alam, says, “Previous day, an accident occurred on this road, and one person was injured. The state of the streets is very bad.”

Sediq Ahmad Sediqi, spokesperson for the Logar governor, confirmed the deterioration of Pol-e-Alam’s streets, stating that efforts are underway to reconstruct the city’s roads to standard specifications. “We are addressing this issue; relevant departments have been tasked with starting the reconstruction of Pol-e-Alam’s internal roads as soon as possible,” Sediqi said.

Pol-e-Alam is a key route connecting southeastern provinces to Kabul, and the damaged streets have made travel to the capital more difficult for passengers from these provinces.
