Futsal coach Murtazaie’s contract extended

The contract of Iranian futsal coach, Majid Murtazaie, has been extended until the end of 2025, officials from the Afghanistan Football Federation said on Wednesday.

Yosuf Kargar, President of the federation, highlighted that Mr. Murtazaie brought significant achievements to Afghan sports last year. “Murtazaie’s contract is for one year, and we continue to receive other proposals. For his progress and training camp, the football federation and the Physical Education Department provide anything needed. We had gone to secure a spot in the World Cup, and we have accepted every kind of proposal for him,” Kargar said.

Majid Murtazaie, the Iranian head coach of the Afghanistan national futsal team, shared during the contract extension meeting that the team will be participating in futsal competitions in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and particularly in the four-nation tournament in Brazil later this year.

Mohammad Jawad Safari, the goalkeeper for the Afghanistan national futsal team, expressed concerns over the living conditions of the team’s players, stating that most of them are laborers and require support.

He added, “Futsal is one of the most popular sports. My request to the responsible institutions and international organizations is to give special attention to futsal. These hardworking players are all laborers and need assistance.”

In the previous year, the Afghanistan national futsal team reached the knockout stage in the 2024 AFC Futsal Asian Cup and ranked among the top 16 teams in the world.
