KABU (SW) – Officials from the Ministry of Public Health of the de-facto government have announced that a nationwide supplementary campaign to administer the polio vaccine has begun in 16 provinces.
Sharafat Zaman Amarkhil, spokesperson for the ministry, said that the national supplementary campaign for the polio vaccine started on Monday, October 28, in Kabul, Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan, Zabul, Farah, Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar, Nuristan, and several other provinces across the south, southeast, east, west, and northeast of Afghanistan.
According to the Mr. Amarkhil, this campaign will last for three days and aims to vaccinate approximately 6.2 million children under the age of five against polio.
The spokesperson urged parents, religious leaders, and community elders to cooperate with the ministry’s vaccinators in implementing the polio vaccination campaign for children under five in the provinces.
Officials from the Ministry of Public Health added that no positive polio cases have been recorded in the country so far, and the ministry aims to prevent the disease through the administration of the polio vaccine.
