Over 1.4 million Afghan citizens helped by ARCS in past year

KABUL (SW) – The Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) officials stated that in the past year, the organization has provided assistance to 1,430,036 individuals affected by natural disasters and other urgent needs.

The aid included cash, non-food and food items such as flour, oil, beans, rice, sugar, salt, tea, pasta, biscuits, chickpeas, tents, tarps, and dishes.

During a press conference held on Saturday, September 14, officials from the Afghan Red Crescent Society highlighted their achievements over the past year. They reported that humanitarian aid has reached 22,735 people affected by recent floods in Baghlan.

Health services have been a major focus for the organization, which operates through 46 fixed hospitals, 36 sub-clinics, 65 emergency medical teams, 36 mobile health teams, and 45 mass health camps. In the past year, these services benefited 5,894,332 individuals, including 2,212 children with congenital heart defects.

Additionally, the Afghan Red Crescent Society manages five orphanages in Kabul, Balkh, Kandahar, Nangarhar, and Herat, providing care for 1,495 orphans.

Through these orphanages, 8,110 widows have received vocational training in areas such as sewing, embroidery, carpet weaving, rug making, and handicrafts.

Following a directive from Hebatullah Akhundzada, leader of the Islamic Emirate, 116,259 beggars were collected, of whom 30,543 were deemed eligible for monthly cash assistance from the organization. Over the past year, a total of 53,875,812 Afghanis was distributed to beggars.

The Afghan Red Crescent Society also provided 204 million Afghans in aid to 24,000 unaccompanied families across the country.

In addition, a new orphanage was constructed in the northeastern region, and solar power systems were installed in Bamyan, Baghlan, Maidan Wardak, Laghman, Kapisa, Parwan, Samangan, Sar-e-Pol, and Jowzjan at a cost of 4.5 million Afghanis.

In the past year, 3,649 individuals joined the Afghan Red Crescent Society, which also organized various workshops for volunteers and staff.

Furthermore, 54,879 girls and boys received religious and computer education at 35 Afghan Red Crescent training centers, and 19 individuals were sent to Germany for medical treatment and have since returned to Afghanistan.
