Ghazni’s disabled youths strive to learn new skills

GHAZNI CITY (SW) – An array of youngsters with different abilities in Ghazni can be seen busy with learning the skills of tailoring, poultry farming and repairing mobile phones at a busy vocational center in the city.

Ismail, a young man with disabilities, and Rohullah, an orphaned child, who learn mobile phone repair and sewing skills in this workshop, are happy to be provided with this educational opportunity. They say that by graduating from this workshop, they can work in the market to provide for their lively needs and that of their families.

The young individuals who study in this technical vocational training workshop want to continue the activity of such training workshops in Ghazni, saying that due to the high number of people with disabilities and orphaned children in the society, the activity of such centers must continue.

Mira Jan, one of the mobile phone repair students in the training workshop, said: “They provided us with this opportunity. Those who are orphans are educated here. We thank them very much and we ask that this course continues in Ghazni.”

Officials of the local non-government organization Helping Hands for Relief and Development (HHRD) say that 100 people with disabilities, orphaned children and poor women are currently being trained in three separate professions for six months in the educational workshop of this institution in Ghazni city.

Mujib Al-Rahman Sadat, the provincial head of the HHRD, told Salam Watandar that efforts are being ensured to expand this educational program at the district level of Ghazni as well.

Meanwhile, Zubair Ahmad Ahmadzai, a trainer who teaches mobile phone repair to students in this workshop, explains that learning this profession is effective for the economic self-sufficiency of people with disabilities and orphaned children, and they can, after completing this workshop, work independently in the market.

Ali Mohammad Mahmoud, Deputy Director of Labor and Social Affairs of Ghazni, welcomed the activities of institutions for creating employment for children and poor families and called for more vocational training for people with disabilities and orphaned children by relevant institutions in Ghazni.

It should be mentioned that several decades of war in Afghanistan have increased the number of people with disabilities and homeless children.
