WFP reiterates urgent need for $14.5 mln to assist flood victims

MONITORING (SW) – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Afghanistan has emphasized that it requires $14.5 million over the next seven months to address the needs of the flood-affected people.

In a statement posted on its official X account on Monday, the WFP stated that it has provided assistance to over 65,000 Afghan citizens in the areas most affected by the recent floods in Afghanistan.

The WFP had previously said that the devastating floods in Afghanistan would exacerbate food insecurity.

In recent weeks, many provinces including Baghlan, Takhar, Ghor, Faryab, Badakhshan, Badghis, Bamyan, Herat, and Samangan have witnessed deadly and ruinous floods.

Lately, WFP announced that the recent floods over the past weeks have affected 80,000 people.

According to the latest figures from the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA), hundreds of people have lost their lives or been injured as a result of these floods, and 15,000 homes and thousands of jeribs of the farmlands have been destroyed.
