Nationwide polio vaccination campaign to immunize 11.2 mln Afghan children

KABUL (SW) – The organization Polio Free Afghanistan has announced that a nationwide polio vaccination campaign commences on Monday across Afghanistan.

The organization shared this update on its official X account but did not specify the number of children who will receive the vaccine in this round.

However, Abdul Qodus Baryalai, head of the Polio Eradication Operations Center at the Ministry of Public Health, told Salam Watandar that the campaign will last for four days.

He further mentioned that the campaign aims to vaccinate 11.2 million children under the age of five across the country.

“The campaign starts across Afghanistan on Monday; approximately 11.2 million children will be vaccinated,” said Baryalai.

This marks the fourth round of polio vaccination in Afghanistan since the beginning of this year.

Afghanistan and Pakistan remain the only countries where polio has not yet been eradicated.
