JALALABAD CITY (SW) – A generator-powered boat sank in Nangarhar province, resulting in the deaths of 20 people and injuring five others.
The incident occurred around 7:30 A.M. on Saturday, in the Basol area of Momandara district.
Among the 20 victims, there were women and children, according to a statement released by media office of Nangarhar province.
So far, the bodies of nine victims have been recovered, and efforts are ongoing to locate and retrieve the remaining bodies.
Kamran Momand, a local resident, told Salam Watandar that 10 people managed to survive the incident.
Rescue teams and local residents continue their search for the missing victims.
Excessive speed has been cited as a potential cause of the boat’s sinking.
