Deadly floods in Badakhshan, Baghlan claim 15 lives

MONITORING (SW) – The devastating flash floods have claimed the lives of 10 people in Badakhshan and 5 others in Baghlan province.

Mohammad Kamgar, the head of the Natural Disaster Management Authority in Badakhshan province reports that severe floods in the “Morchak” village of Fayzabad, the central of the provincial, have claimed the lives of ten family members on Saturday night.

The body of one individual has been found, while nine other family members remain missing. Efforts are ongoing to locate the missing family members, he said.

According to Kamgar, there is no precise data on the overall damages caused by last night’s floods yet. He added that they are working to gather accurate information regarding the casualties and damages resulting from this natural disaster.

The Saturday night’s floods in the villages of “Morchek, Pasi Jar, Darijani, and Chatraq” in Fayzabad city and the Argo district of this province have caused significant loss of life and property.

Meanwhile, sources in the “Dahana-e-Larkhab” area of Doshi district, Baghlan province, report that heavy rainfall and devastating floods last night have resulted in the deaths of at least five people.

Nasir Ahmad, a local resident told Salam Watandar that around 1,000 residential houses in the Dara-e-Larkhab area were destroyed due to the torrential rains and destructive floods.

According to him, the bodies of three women and two men have been found in Dahana-e-Larkhab and Qala-e-Shar areas so far, with several people still missing. The toll is expected to be increased.

The floods have also devastated hundreds of jeribs of agricultural land and killed hundreds of livestock in Dahan-e Larkhab area.
