Analysts see international tourists as pivotal for economic growth

KABUL (SW) – At least 27,914 foreign citizens have traveled Afghanistan during 2023, the National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) of the Islamic Emirate stated on Wednesday.

The officials from NSIA said that the statistic of entry and exit of the foreign citizens have been registered at the country’s border crossings and airports.

According to officials, these foreign citizens have come to Afghanistan for tourism and work purposes.

Mohammad Halim Rafee, spokesperson for NSIA, said: “The recorded figures indicate that during the past year, including 675 females, 15,153 individuals entered the country, and 12,761 other individuals, 495 of whom are females, have left the country.”

Zaher Behzad, an economic affairs expert, considers the movement of foreign citizens to Afghanistan beneficial to the country’s economy and emphasizes on facilitating more facilities in this regard.

“The more foreign citizens come to Afghanistan for investment or tourism purposes, the better it is,” he told Salam Watandar, “because their arrival brings some foreign currency into the country’s economic cycle, and on the other hand, Afghanistan’s interaction with the world increases.”

It is worth mentioning that recently, the Associated Press news agency has reported an increase in the number of foreign tourists in Afghanistan, and during the year 2023, 7,000 tourists, mostly Chinese citizens, have visited Afghanistan.
