UNAMA commemorates IDHSF: Pashto, fourth language spoken in space

MONITORING (SW) – The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) commemorated the “International Day for Human Space Flight’ (IDHSF)” by highlighting that Pashto is the fourth official language spoken in space.

On Friday, April 12th, UNAMA shared on its Facebook page, saying: “Happy International Day for Human Space Flight! Did you know that Pashto was the fourth language spoken in space?”

UNAMA stated that when Afghan astronaut Momand traveled to space in 1988, he called his mother from there and spoke to her in Pashto. Thus, Pashto became the fourth official language spoken in space.

Abdul Ahad Momand, at the age of 29, became the first Afghan citizen to travel to space, spending nine days there.

During his mission, he captured images of Afghanistan and participated in various scientific experiments related to astrophysics, medicine, and biology.

April 12th marks the “International Day for Human Space Flight” commemorating Yuri Gagarin’s historic journey as the first human in space.

This day was officially designated by the United Nations General Assembly on April 7, 2011.
