KABUL (SW) – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Afghanistan announced that the European Union has contributed €15 million to support its initiatives.
In its X account, UNICEF stated that this funding is designated for the prevention and treatment of malnutrition among adolescent girls and children, as well as for improving water services.
On the other hand, the European Union, in a newsletter, declared that with this contribution, nutrition services will be provided to 1.7 million mothers and children, drinking water services will be extended to 80,000 people, and vocational training will be offered to 6,000 adolescent girls.
Peter Stano, Head of the Asian Relations Department of the European Union, has stated that the European Union will also allocate 11.8 million euros to support the private sector in Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Economy, in a newsletter on its X account, reported that Peter Stano, in a meeting with Din Mohammad Hanif, the acting minister of the ministry, said that the European Union would provide an additional 20 million euros under the environmental conservation project to create job opportunities for 30,000 individuals in 250 villages.
The newsletter further mentioned that the European Union has assured the International Organization for Migration (IOM) of 17.8 million euros in aid to address the issues faced by Afghan returnees from other countries.
According to the newsletter, Din Mohammad Hanif emphasized during the meeting the need for continued assistance from the European Union and developmental cooperation from its member countries with Afghanistan.
