Islamic Emirate, Pakistan seek to ease tensions and improve relations

KABUL (SW) – Sardar Ahmad Shakib, Head of the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad, tells Salam Watandar that in his meeting with Asif Durrani, the special representative of this country’s for Afghanistan, it was agreed that Pakistan’s air attacks on Afghan territory would not be repeated.

He says: “Yesterday, at the request of Asif Durrani, I met with him. In this meeting, the recent air attacks by Pakistan, which had caused tensions, were discussed, and it was agreed that such incidents would not be repeated in the future.” The meeting held on Friday, March. 22.

The military forces of the Islamic Emirate and Pakistan witnessed a short-time military confrontation on March. 18. from two sides of the Durand line which occurred after Pakistan’s airstrikes on parts of Khost and Paktika.

Resolving the existing issues in the relations between Pakistan and the Islamic Emirate, as well as improving the economic and trade relations between two countries, are among the other topics that the Islamic Emirate and Pakistan’s officials have discussed.

Sardar Ahmad Shakib adds that as a result of discussions held with Asif Durrani, it is planned that soon a delegation from the Ministry of Commerce of Pakistan will visit Kabul.

“In the coming days, a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Commerce of Pakistan will visit Kabul, and during the visit of this delegation, detailed discussions will be held on trade and transit issues.”

Aziz Stanikzai, expert on the political and military issues, sees the military confrontation between Afghanistan and Pakistan as detrimental to both countries. He urges Pakistan to pursue diplomatic solutions to its problems with Afghanistan.

“In regards to the tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan, I must say that the situation has become complicated. There have even been threats of attack from Pakistan against Afghanistan. I believe the Pakistani government should come to its senses and refrain from meddling in Afghan affairs, resolving issues through dialogue instead.”

Relations between the Islamic Emirate and the Pakistani government have experienced significant fluctuations over the past two years, ranging from border closures to exchanges of fire between the two sides.
