Guterres warns of global garbage crisis on World Zero Waste Day

KABUL (SW) – On occasion of World Zero Waste Day, Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, has stated that the earth is drowning under a torrent of trash.

On Saturday, Guterres wrote on X, saying that humans produce two billion tons of solid municipal waste annually and the world must strive for a legally binding treaty to end plastic pollution.

“Overconsumption is killing us. Humanity needs an intervention.”

Antonio Guterres urged everyone to put an end to the destructive cycle of waste production.

March 30, was named as World Zero Waste Day by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2022.
