Qatar hosts an important meeting on Afghanistan, no representative from IE

KABUL (SW) – Doha, the capital of Qatar, is hosting a two-day meeting on Afghanistan, hosted by Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Although the exact agenda of the Doha meeting has not been made public yet, however, it has been metioned that in this meeting, the situation of Afghanistan, how the world interacts with the Islamic Emirate, the appointment of a special representative by the United Nations for Afghanistan, and the review of the independent evaluations of the special coordinator of the United Nations Secretary General for Afghanistan, would be discussed.

In the Doha meeting, special representatives of various countries and international organizations are supposed to participate.

The Islamic Emirate does not participate in the Doha International meeting.

Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the de-facto government of Afghanistan said in a statement that they had explained to the United Nations that the participation of the Islamic Emirate in the Doha meeting is beneficial if it participates as the only responsible party on behalf of Afghanistan and the context for clear talks at a high-level between the Afghan delegations and the United Nations must be provided with all the issues.

The statement adds: “Due to the lack of progress in this field, the inconclusive subscription was not considered useful by the Emirate.

The Islamic Emirate had previously announced that it was invited by the United Nations to participate in the Doha meeting; However, the participation of a representative from the Islamic Emirate in this meeting has not been clarified.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, says that the Islamic Emirate has different demands and expectations from this meeting if it participates or not.

“Until our position is known, we cannot say our expectations, because if we participate, we have one kind of expectation and if we do not participate, we have another expectation,” Mujahid told Salam Watandar.

The second round of the Doha meeting on Afghanistan will is being held while it also brings expectations and criticisms.

The most important criticism of this meeting is the absence of Afghan women activists in it. On the eve of the Doha meeting, Amnesty International has asked its participants to work to remove the restrictions imposed by the Islamic Emirate on women.

Wali Forozan, an expert in international relations, does not believe in the outcome of the Doha meeting to change the political situation in Afghanistan. “Ultimately, the result of this meeting is that more interaction with the Taliban, the opening of some embassies and humanitarian and economic aid are things that can be implemented after this meeting, and other sectors and agendas that are discussed in this meeting will not be implemented, especially the agendas that the Taliban are against them at all.”

The Doha meeting is being held in the continuation of dozens of international meetings about Afghanistan in the past two years, which have been held to discuss the situation of Afghanistan. However it has not been able to bring change and achieve a single global approach to Afghanistan.
