Doha meeting had no potent result, says Muttaqi

KABUL (SW) – Amir Khan Muttaqi, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the de-facto government of Afghanistan, has stated that he closely monitored the Doha meeting, and according to him, it did not lead to any potent results.

On Thursday, Muttaqi held a meeting with Roza Otunbayeva, Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

Abdul Qahar Balkhi, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, wrote on X that during the meeting, in connection with the recent Doha meeting on Afghanistan, the assessment and coordinating proposals and the future interaction between the Islamic Emirate and the United Nations were discussed.

During the meeting, Ms. Otunbayeva gave information about the Doha meeting, saying on behalf of the United Nations Secretary-General that there must be a consultation with the Afghan government, according to Balkhi.

Ms. Otunbayeva added that from the point of view of the United Nations Secretary-General, there must be “no action that complicates the work with the Afghan government in the appointment of a representative”.

She emphasized that if the participating countries agree, more meetings will be held in Doha to create a better comprehension between the United Nations and the Islamic Emirate, and extensive consultations will be held with the Islamic Emirate in connection with future meetings.

Roza Otunbayeva has also said that the participants of the Doha meeting have emphasized the continuation of interaction with the de-facto government of Afghanistan.

The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs said he hopes that the meetings regarding interaction with Afghanistan will have good results. “For the effectiveness of the meetings, the comprehensive consultations on all issues with Kabul are important,” according to Muttaqi.

The second round of meetings of the special representatives of countries on Afghanistan was held on February 18 and 19, in Doha; however, the Islamic Emirate did not participate in this meeting due to its conditions not being accepted by the United Nations. Russia has called this meeting “failed”.
