GHAZNI CITY (SW) – A number of doctors and medical staff in Ghazni Regional Hospital have mentioned a significant reduction in their salaries, saying that it has caused them to face a difficult economic situation.
They add that their salary for the last four months of 2023 has been paid with a delay of several months and with a deduction of 50-60%.
Khayal Mohammad Afghan, a doctor at Ghazni Regional Hospital, says: “Before, my income was around 21,000 Afghanis; but now my income has decreased almost to 12,000 Afghanis. Therefore, it is impossible to meet the expenses of the family’s needs.”
Narges Azizi, another doctor in Ghazni Regional Hospital, also says that her salary has decreased from 26,000 Afghanis to 14,00 Afghanis. “I am not satisfied with it, also I have not even received this amount of salary yet. We are responsible for providing life expenses of the family.”
Doctors at Ghazni Regional Hospital urge the Islamic Emirate and donor institutions to promptly disburse their salaries.
This appeal comes as doctors seek financial stability. They affirm that it allows them to focus on patient care without the burden of daily financial concerns.
“It’s been three or four months that our salaries have not even been paid; it has been decreased to half. We demand that our salaries be paid completely and on time,” said Wahidullah, another doctor at Ghazni Regional Hospital.
In response, Rasul Khan Nazari, head of Ghazni’s Public Health Department, confirmed the reduction in the salaries of a number of doctors in this province. He told Salam Watandar that their salaries were previously paid by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). However, according to him, their salaries are paid by the Ministry of Public Health from four months onwards.
Rasul Khan promises that after this the salary of doctors will be paid without any delay.
Earlier reports have indicated that fees are being charged to patients in various departments of Ghazni Regional Hospital in exchange for health services.
