KABUL (SW) – While the conflict in Gaza persists between Israeli forces and Hamas, the situation in the region has intensified with Yemen’s Houthi launching missile attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea. In response, the United States and its allies have initiated military actions against the Houthi group, further escalating tensions in the region.
Recent military actions between Iran and Pakistan, neighboring countries of Afghanistan, have resulted in the recall of ambassadors from both nations. While reports suggest a potential normalization of Iran-Pakistan relations, experts caution that any regional crisis and its escalation could pose detrimental consequences for Afghanistan.
Noor-Rahman Saqib, an expert on international relations, comments that the Crisis in the region has a direct effect on Afghanistan from an economic and political point of view. “If the situation in the region and around Afghanistan worsens, this issue will have a negative impact on the official recognition of Afghanistan, as well as in the economic and human rights sectors, and the situation will become more complicated.”
Experts warn that ongoing regional tensions and conflicts pose a potential threat to the commercial processes in the region, negatively affecting Afghanistan, and the formation of a regional consensus around the Afghanistan issue may face obstacles as a result of these persistent challenges.
While Iran has been trying to establish a regional contact group with the presence of regional countries around Afghanistan for some time now, experts say that the tense situation in the region can make the efforts fail.
Abdul-Jabbar Akbari, a political expert, highlights that the absence of an internationally recognized government in Afghanistan can heighten the country’s vulnerability to regional crises.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov said in a press conference last Thursday that the tensions between Iran and Pakistan should not affect the relations between these countries with Afghanistan.
So far, the Islamic Emirate has maintained a neutral stance regarding regional crises and has urged the governments of Iran and Pakistan to exercise restraint in addressing tensions between the two countries.
