ISLAMABAD (SW) – Jalil Abbas Jilani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Interim Government of Pakistan, in his meeting with Mohammad Sher Akhund, the Governor of Kandahar, has said that Pakistan is committed to continuing the interaction and beneficial bilateral relations with Afghanistan.

The meeting was held on Wednesday, and the two sides agreed to continue the high-level discussions to expand bilateral relations, stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan.

Issues related to the border security were also discussed in this meeting, according to the statement.

He added that the deputy of strategic intelligence of the Ministry of National Defense and Mohammad Sher Akhund, the governor of Kandahar, participated in this meeting on behalf of Afghanistan.

Mujahid states that the establishment of facilities along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, addressing security concerns, and devising strategies to combat smuggling are key the topics for Mohammad-Sher Akhund during his discussions with Pakistani authorities.

“Afghanistan adheres to a policy that prohibits its use as a threat against any country, and the same point is considered for Pakistan. Reciprocal adherence to this principle was also requested from Pakistan,” he added.

Islamic Emirate and Pakistan engage in discussions on border issues, as the security forces from both sides have clashed at least seven times at the border over the past two years.

Abdul-Shakur Dadras, a political expert, expresses his optimism, stating: “We are pleased that the issues between neighboring countries be resolved, as the ongoing conflicts and tensions adversely affect the people of Afghanistan. We are not happy that both the Afghan citizens and Pakistanis live in a suffering situation.”
