KABUL (SW) – The United Nations Security Council once again has convened a meeting to assess the situation in Afghanistan. The meeting was held on Wednesday.
In this meeting, the fight against terrorism, the establishment of an inclusive government, and the adherence to human rights were raised as primary demands from the Islamic Emirates, also concerns were expressed about the de-facto government’s perceived insufficient efforts in addressing these issues.
During the meeting, Roza Otunbayeva, the special representative of the UN Secretary-General for Afghanistan, who is also the head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), raised the topic of interaction with the Islamic Emirate.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate, welcomes the discussions on interaction with the de-facto government and the cessation of sanctions. He dismisses concerns raised about terrorist threats originating from Afghanistan.
“The countries proposed to interact with the Islamic Emirate and end the sanctions. We welcome it, but we reject the concerns about the security in Afghanistan and some of the groups they mentioned,” Mujahid told Salam Watandar.
Over the past two years, numerous meetings, like the session of the Security Council, have been dedicated to discussing the situation in Afghanistan, with global concerns consistently voiced. despite these gatherings and efforts by the world’s largest organization, no discernible change has materialized in Afghanistan.
After over two years of the Islamic Emirate’s control over Afghanistan, the international community and the Islamic Emirate have failed to reach a consensus on the formation of an inclusive government, the protection of human rights, and the fight against terrorism. Consequently, the global recognition of the Islamic Emirate’s governance in Afghanistan remains incomplete.
