Parwan residents struggling with leishmania

CHARIKAR (SW) – Residents of Parwan say that the number of leishmania patients has increased in this province and they do not have access to medical services.

Khard Aqa, a resident of Jabal al-Sraj district of Parwan, who brought his seven-year-old son for treatment, says that most of the residents of this province are suffering from this disease. He adds: “One of my children has ringworm, we couldn’t find medicine for it in the Jabal al-Sarraj clinic, and we came to Parwan. It’s been two or three months since the signs appeared on his hand. But there is no medicine. Our wish is that they give medicine in the clinics and this disease is cured.”

Jamshid, a resident of “Koklami” village of Salang district, whose two children are infected with this disease, also complains about the lack of medical services.

Jamshid says: “My two children have been suffering from eczema for almost three or four months, even when they go to school, other children and classmates laugh at them. We take him for treatment, there is neither medicine nor doctor in the district clinics. We are facing many problems.”

At the same time, the officials of the Public Health Department of Parwan also confirm the increase in leishmania patients and say that the supply of medical services to patients in this province is ongoing.

Abdulsalam Hanif, the head of the communicable diseases department of the public health department of Parwan, emphasizes that a number of medical centers in this province are facing a shortage of medicine.

Abdulsalam Hanif adds: “There is a department in the provincial hospital where leishmania services are provided. We also have 14 health centers in Parwan. Leishmania medicine is available in all clinics, in some places where there is a shortage, we contact the higher authorities and try to make it available to the people. Last year, we treated 1,198 patients, and in the first six months of this year, more than 500 people have been treated.”

According to doctors, neglecting personal hygiene and being bitten by mosquitoes that transmit bacteria are one of the main reasons for the increase in this disease.
