KABUL (SW) – The second street book exhibition was launched here on Thursday in the west of Kabul city by the Kabul Municipality.
This exhibition was opened with the aim of promoting the culture of reading books among young people.
Rafiullah Ahmadzai, the deputy of the fifth district of Kabul municipality, during the opening of this exhibition, said that in this exhibition, more than 2000 titles of books in medical, political, social and general information sections were displayed for two days.
He added: “The general goal of this exhibition is to encourage young people to read books. This exhibition was held in the area of the Pul-e-Sokhta because this area used to be a center for addicts and we are trying to turn this center into a cultural center and other exhibitions will be held in the coming months.”
Similarly, some visitors of this book fair considered the holding of such fairs as a good opportunity to buy the books they need.
Abdul Qadir, a resident of Kabul city and one of the visitors of this exhibition, told Salam Watandar: “We came here to benefit from the books that are here and study to get more information.”
Hamidullah, another resident of Kabul city and one of the visitors of this exhibition, said: “My wish as a teacher is that they come to share and study. Without study, human life does not progress and our beloved Prophet Muhammad said to seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave.”
This is despite the fact that, according to the officials of the Afghanistan Publishers Union, there are currently 150 publishers operating across the country, most of which are facing the risk of bankruptcy.
