Local media in Samangan facing existential crisis

QALA-E-NAU (SW) – Multiple factors have forced the local media in Samangan prove to face a grim existential crisis.

Officials and employees of a number of private media in Samangan say that they have faced many economic problems during the past two years and if this issue continues, the activities of these media will be stopped.

Ahmadjavid Afghan, the owner of “Shabnam” visual media franchise in Samangan, told Salam Watandar that after the collapse of the previous regime, the economic situation of the media in this province has faced stagnation and even an audio media and a visual media due to economic problems and the lack of possibilities.

Mr. Afghan adds: “The support that was given to the media before, is now non-existent or very little, which does not compensate for the financial situation of the media. There are problems in general, if the problems continue in this way, it is certain that our activities may stop one day, and many other media as well.”

Shahid Shahid, the reporter of “Rostam” radio in Samangan, also says that after the political developments in the country, the activities of one visual media and one radio station have stopped and now only one radio is active in Samangan.

He adds: “Previously, we had three media outlets here, one of which was Rostam tv, Rostam tadio and Truth radio. After the developments took place, due to the lack of facilities and budget, we could not keep all three media active, and one of our radios and televisions is currently off. Only we have broadcasts with a radio station going on.”

However, the officials of Samangan information and culture department continue to claim about the good condition of the media in this province and say that the activities of some private media were stopped during the previous government and they are trying to reactivate these media.

According to the statistics of the Samangan information and culture department, there were six audio and video media houses in this province, of which three audio and video media stations ceased to operate due to financial problems during the previous government, and one audio and two audio media houses are still active.
