New media law on the cards

KABUL (SW) – Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman of the Islamic Emirate, said in an interview with Salam Watandar that the media law in the country is going to be ratified soon.

He added that the details of this law will be made public after its ratification. The spokesman of the Islamic Emirate said: “Yesterday, the leader of the Islamic Emirate met with the heads of information and culture department from the provinces, and in this meeting it was agreed the media law in the country is going to be ratified soon.”

Meanwhile, the NAi – Supporting Independent Media Organization has expressed hope that more facilities will be provided to the media and journalists with the approval of the new media law. Zarif Karimi, the official of NAI, told Salam Watandar that there may be fundamental changes in the new media law.

He added: “There may be fundamental changes in the media law, on the structure of the media, the media policy, a number of prohibited items, the publication and content structure, and the media publication policy.”

It should be mentioned that until now the law of mass media of the republic era is implemented in the country’s media and the Islamic Emirate has already said that until the new law is ratified, the media can follow it.
