KABUL (SW) – Nai – supportig free media organisations has said in a statement that the year 1401 (21 March 2022 to 21 March 2023) was disappointing and full of challenges for the Afghan media community.

Nai has stated that Afghan journalists and media houses were dealing with many worries and challenges in the past year.

“In the past year, the media and information work environment was not without challenges and problems. On the other hand, the end of 1401 was sad and heartbreaking for the Afghan media community. In the last days of the year, we witnessed the escalation of violence against journalists and media workers”, it said.

The organization supporting Afghanistan’s free media has added that in the year 1401, journalists in Afghanistan did not have physical and psychological immunity. According to this institution, in the past year, painful events happened to the media community and journalists, when a number of media employees lost their lives and a number of them were in a bad mental and emotional state.

“A number of journalists have lost their duties and even had to leave the country. However, half of the media houses in Afghanistan have stopped operating due to economic problems, and the rest of the media are not in a very good condition. The continuation of such a situation has aroused the concern of the media and journalist community”, it said.

Nai has emphasized that it expects the international organizations supporting the media and journalists to continue their commitments to support the Afghan media and journalism community.

Nai has also asked the responsible authorities to take necessary measures regarding the security situation and immunity of journalists.
