KABUL (SW) – A number of Kabul residents say that the lack of professional doctors in private hospitals has hampered the quality of health services in the city.

These Kabul residents have contacted Salam Watandar Radio’s health program and complained about the lack of professional doctors in private hospitals in Kabul.

Yar Mohammad, a resident of Taimani area of Kabul city, said that the lack of professional doctors has caused his daughter’s face to become disfigured when operated on in one of the private hospitals.

Noor Ahmad, a resident of Kabul’s Paghman district, said that he visited local private hospitals several times, but due to the lack of professional doctors and technical equipment, his illness was not accurately diagnosed and even brought him close to death.

“Whenever we went, they gave me medicine and they couldn’t diagnose my illness. Until I went to the government hospital and was diagnosed, and they said that if you don’t operate in the next day or night, the gallbladder will rupture.”

Likewise, Ali Haider, a resident of Dasht Barchi, Kabul, said: “My kidney had a stone, and I wanted to go and find out about the result, and I did the examinations. The stone did not show, I saw that the doctors did not have experience and their devices did not work properly, and it was like they were deceiving people.”

Meanwhile, the officials of the Ministry of Public Health, rejecting the unprofessionalism of doctors in private hospitals in Kabul, said that the ministry is working to improve the capacity of doctors.

Sharaf Zaman Amarkhil, the spokesperson of the ministry, said: “The lack of professional doctors in private hospitals is not true. After passing several tests, they can work as doctors in private hospitals, and it is not possible to hire inexperienced people, but there are some medical errors. We strive to provide better health services.”

Officials of the Ministry of Public Health added that 3,500 hospitals in Kabul city have been monitored so far and this process will continue to improve the supply of health services to citizens.
