KABUL (SW) – At least 580 candidates from different provinces have taken part in the first round of the entrance exam for defense attorneys of the Ministry of Justice in Kabul.
Officials of the Ministry of Justice said that the purpose of holding this test is that, in addition to creating a working environment for defense lawyers, citizens in remote parts of the country will also have access to defense lawyers.
Abdul Ghani Fayeq, Finance and Administrative Deputy of the Ministry of Justice, said: “Citizens who come here from long distances face a problem. This test is taken so that they can serve in their region and in different provinces. On the one hand, jobs will be found for lawyers, and on the other hand, people’s work will be solved in the best way.”
Meanwhile, Abdul Raouf Ahmadi, who came to the Ministry of Justice to participate in this exam, told Salam Watandar: “Those wwho have graduated the Sharia and law departments can participate in these exams. In this exam”.
Likewise, Fazlhadi Sahibzada, the general head of legislation of the Ministry of Justice, said that a lawyer who passes the test will be officially introduced to work in the offices. “The number of defense lawyers who are truly useful to the society are evaluated and presented to the society. Approximately 580 defense lawyers were registered and evaluated and have now participated in the exam program.”
Mr. Sahibzadeh adadded at the Department of Defense Lawyers is trying to renew the licenses of the lawyers who have already obtained a work permit and the time has passed.
This is despite the fact that there was no woman among the defense attorney license examinees.
Roza Otunbayeva, the UN Secretary General’s special representative for Afghanistan, has requested the extension of the activity license of women’s lawyers in a meeting with Abdul Hakim Sharai, Acting Minister of Justice.
Roza Otunbayeva said that the expertise of female defense lawyers is vital for providing access to justice for women and children in Afghanistan.
