Daesh takes responsibility for attack near foreign ministry

KABUL (SW) – Daesh has claimed responsibility for the suicide attack on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul a day earlier.

Amaq propaganda site affiliated to the ISIS issued a statement saying that the attack on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul was the job of this group.

The ISIS group stated that the purpose of this attack was to disrupt the meeting of foreign diplomats with the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A few hours after this incident, Amaq issued a video of a masked person, claiming that the attack was carried out by a member of this group named “Khybar al-Kunduzi”.

This attack took place around 4:00 pm yesterday.

Khalid Zadran, the spokesman of the Kabul Security Command, has said that as a result of the explosion on the road of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, five civilians were killed. According to the spokesperson of the Kabul Security Command, as a result of this explosion, a number of people were also injured. But he did not clarify the exact number of wounded.

Meanwhile, the Kabul Emergency Hospital has announced that more than 40 injured people have been transferred to this hospital from the explosion site near the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the announcement of the emergency hospital, which was broadcast on Wednesday night, it is stated that the number of casualties in this event is increasing and it is difficult to determine the final figure.

According to the announcement, Emergency hospital staff are continuing to treat the injured and have moved additional beds into kitchens and dining halls.

The spokesperson of the Kabul Security Command stated: “The Islamic Emirate condemns such an aimless and cowardly attack on Muslims.” It said that the perpetrators of this incident will be found and punished for their actions.

On the other hand, a number of media have reported 20 deaths in this event, citing their sources. According to reports, the suicide bomber detonated his explosives in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs when a delegation of Chinese diplomats was present in the ministry.

This attack has faced internal and external reactions. The Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), the British Embassy in Afghanistan, the Iranian Embassy in Kabul, Hamid Karzai, the former president, Abdullah Abdullah, the head of the Supreme National Reconciliation Council of the previous government, and many others have condemned this attack.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also called this attack the work of “enemies of the Islamic Emirate” and promised revenge. In the past few months, this is the latest attack by the ISIS group on diplomatic places in Kabul. This group has already attacked several diplomatic places, including the embassies of Russia and Pakistan in Kabul and the hotel where Chinese citizens stay in Kabul.
