Floods cause havoc in Laghman

JALALABAD (SW) – Flash floods have caused havoc in Laghman claiming at least 3 lives and injuring 15 others.

Local officials in Laghman say that after heavy rain last night and this morning, floods have occurred in Elishang, Qargeyi, Badpakh districts and some parts of Mehtarlam city, the capital of this province.

Officials added that as a result of flooding in the mentioned areas, 3 people died and 15 others were injured. According to the officials, the flood in Laghman destroyed dozens of acres of land and dozens of residential houses and caused huge financial losses to the people.

In addition to this, floods have also occurred in a number of areas of Nangarhar province and have inflicted financial losses. There have been no reports of flood casualties in Nangarhar yet.

On Thursday the Afghanistan Meteorological Department had issued a warning about the possibility of heavy rain and flash floods in 25 provinces, including Nuristan, Kunar, Laghman and Nangarhar.
