Apricot yield surge by 30% in Logar

LOGAR (SW) – Officials at the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock in Logar confirmed that this year’s apricot yield has increased by 30% in this province.

Mohammad Rafi Ebrahimi, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock of Logar, told Salam Watandar that this year apricot yield has increased significantly in this province.

The Deputy Director of Agriculture of Logar added that last year 212 tons of apricots were obtained from the gardens of this province and this year this figure has increased to 275 tons, which shows a 30% increase.

“There are apricot orchards in the city of Pul-e-Alam and the districts of Charkh, Khushi, Mohammad-Agheh and Bareh-e-Barak. This year’s apricot yield has increased by 30% compared to last year”.

Gardeners in Logar also confirm the increase in apricot yields this year in this province, but they say that due to the lack of a market, they sell their products at half the price.

They want the Ministries of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock and Industry and Trade to market their agricultural products inside and outside the country.

Nematullah, one of the apricot gardeners in Logar, said: “Indeed, the apricot yield has increased this year in Logar, but unfortunately, I must say that apricots did not have a good market this year.”

Mohammad Shah, another apricot gardener in Logar, said that the government needs to inform the gardeners about preservation, cultivation and marketing and market their products inside and outside.

Five types of apricots are produced in Logar, namely Amiri, Shakarpara, Qaisi, Chaharghazi and Charkhi, and there are apricot orchards in the city of Pul-e-Alam and the districts of Charkh, Baraki Barak, Khushi and Mohammad Agha.
