Islamic Emirate should secure balanced trade deals with Pakistan, says analysts

KABUL (SW) – Analysts believe Afghanistan should secure new and balanced trade deals with Pakistan under the Islamic Emirate.

Bhair Zeland, an expert on economic issues, says that the Islamic Emirate should make proper use of the opportunity and make trade agreements with Pakistan based on the interests of Afghan citizens. “Our government should be serious about this. Don’t let Afghanistan’s resources or industries be traded in such a way that might cause loss”.

On the other hand, Abdul Wafi Naibzai, another expert on economic issues, says that the interests of both sides should be considered in the trade agreements that are to be signed between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

A Pakistani delegation is paying a 3-day (July 18-20) visit to Kabul for negotiations with the interim Afghan government for resolution of trade, transit and transportation issues facing the two sides, including night-time operations of border facilities for coal imports.

Pakistan decided a couple of days ago to relax trade conditions with Afghanistan, including barter trade and transactions in Pakistani rupee and wants border facilities to operate round the clock to facilitate coal imports from Afghanistan throughout the night, reported Dawn.

Maulana Zaheer, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, told Salaam Watandar that during the visit of the Pakistani delegation to Afghanistan, various trade and transit issues will be discussed.

“A high-ranking delegation from Pakistan will visit Afghanistan, and business issues will be discussed, especially APTA issues, coal issues, 24-hour port services and barter trade and transit.”

This is the first visit of the Pakistani trade delegation to Afghanistan after the domination of the Islamic Emirate.
