Floods claim 31 lives in Kandahar and Uruzgan

KANDAHAR (SW) – Flash floods have claimed the lives of at least 31 people in Kandahar and Uruzgan provinces. 

Residents of Kandahar’s Shawali Kot district told Salam Watandar that heavy rains in the district yesterday caused floods in Kajur, Faryad, Blossing, Doab and some other areas, killing seven people and causing many financial losses.

The floods also killed livestock and destroyed homes and shops, they said. Meanwhile, the recent rains in Kandahar’s Khanshin district have also caused severe damage.

On the other hand, residents of Khas Rozgan district in Uruzgan province told Salam Watandar that the recent rains in the district have submerged people’s agricultural lands and destroyed many residential houses.

Musa Kaleem Sahar, a spokesman for the Al-Badr Corps, told Salam Watandar that they had sent security forces to rescue people in the district.

Elsewhere, Gizab district chief Ali Marjan Zakir said floods in the had killed seven people and destroyed many homes.
