Authorities warn of floods in and around Kabul

KABUL (SW) – Authorities have warned of flash floods in and around Kabul owing to climate changes factors.

The Ministry of Energy and Water has announced that due to climate changes and based on the predictions of the Meteorological Department of the country and international reliable organizations, the possibility of relatively heavy rain with flash floods is predicted in and around Kabul.

The ministry said in a statement there was the possibility of floods due to rainfall, melting of snow leading to rising water level in the direction of the Kunar, Paktia and Khost as well.

The Ministry of Energy and Water has asked the residents of the downstream areas to avoid going near the rivers during floods.

The announcement also states that the upstream residents should inform the downstream areas when the flood occurs or the water level rises, in order to prevent human casualties.
