Floods continue to cause havoc in different provinces

KABUL (SW) – Heavy floods in Faryab, Baghlan, Parwan, Maidan Wardak and Badghis provinces have caused severe financial and personal losses to the people.

According to the head of Faryab Disaster Management Department, Syed Masood, the flash floods in Qaisar, Kohistan and Pashtun Kot districts and Maimana city have killed nine people and flooded 1,200 houses. According to him, hundreds of acres of agricultural land got damaged and many animals were killed.

Local sources in Baghlan said that seven people had lost their lives due to heavy rains and floods in the province.

However, Mustafa Hashimi, Baghlan’s director of information and culture, confirmed the death of one man.

Sources said that five people were killed in Badghis and nine in Parwan due to the floods. Floods and strong winds also hit Maidan Wardak, Helmand and Farah, causing severe damage.

Maulvi Sharafuddin Muslim, Deputy Minister of State for Emergency Situations, has said that according to preliminary figures, at least 20 people got killed and 30 got injured following torrential rains and floods in ten provinces.

He said the numbers were preliminary and the survey was ongoing
