Director mines in Badakhshan killed in IED blast

FAIZABAD (SW) – The director mines and petroleum in Badakhshan province has lost his life to a landmine blast, confirmed sources.

Local sources in Badakhshan told Salam Watandar that Abdul Fattah, the province’s director of mines and petroleum, was killed and two of his bodyguards were injured when a magnetic mine exploded in his car.

Sources add that at around 1:30 a.m. today, a car belonging to the head of the Badakhshan Mines and Petroleum Department was targeted by a magnetic mine in the Baghshah area of ​​the seventh district of Faizabad city, the capital of the province.

Meanwhile, Moazeddin Ahmadi, the head of information and culture in Badakhshan, confirmed the incident to Salam Watandar and said that they were continuing to investigate. According to Mr. Ahmadi, details of the casualties are not yet available to them.

Some media outlets reported, citing their sources, that the blast killed the head of the Badakhshan Mines and Petroleum Directorate and one of his bodyguards, and wounded five members of the Islamic Emirate force.

No individual or group has yet claimed responsibility for the incident
