US envoy calls for emancipation of women in Afghanistan

MONITORING (SW) – Rina Amiri, US Special Representative for Afghanistan’s Women and Human Rights, has said the Islamic Emirate must use the talents of women and girls to move toward stability and what its citizens deserve.

She said this in a series of tweets after spending a couple of days in Doha, the capital of Qatar, discussing human rights and women rights in Afghanistan and the importance of the Islamic world’s leadership role in this regard. According to her, Qatari women leaders are a great example of Muslim women in public and political roles working for the advancement of their country.

“The @AfghanRobotics Team is a powerful reflection of the talent, vision & ingenuity of Afghan girls. Educating girls improves the social & economic well-being of communities & can help Afghanistan grow and innovate”, she tweeted.

Rina Amiri further said she will continue to engage the Muslim world to show rich diversity in Islam and women and girls’ place in political, economic and social spaces. “Afghanistan needs to utilize the talent of its women & girls to move towards stability & a future Afghans deserve”, she tweeted.

With the rise to power of the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan, many restrictions have been placed on the activities and presence of women in various fields. For the past six months, women have not been allowed to work in many government offices, and female students above the sixth grade are also barred from attending school.

Earlier, the US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, or SIGAR, announced that restrictions on women’s work and employment in Afghanistan would cost the economy $ 1 billion.
