Teachers receive cash assistance via UNICEF

KABUL (SW) – All public sector teachers in the capital Kabul and surrounding Logar and Maidan Wardak provinces have been paid with cash assistance, said officials on Saturday.

The state-run RTA TV quoted the Ministry of Education sources as saying that the process of distributing cash aid to 40,000 teachers in Kabul, Logar and Maidan Wardak provinces has begun.

According to the report, the assistance was provided by the United Nations Children’s Fund or UNICEF in coordination with Ministry of Education officials.

According to the RTA, each teacher will receive $ 100.

The process of distributing cash aid to teachers has started as teachers have not received their salaries in a number of provinces since the takeover of the Islamic Emirate back in August.

In November last year, the Ministry of Finance announced that the pending salaries from the past three months would be paid to the government servants in one go.

Ahmad Wali Haqmal, the spokesman for the finance ministry, told a news conference in Kabul that the revenue collection was gaining momentum with each passing day. Without sharing much details, he marked customs and other taxes as the main contributors.

Afghanistan’s over $9 billion worth of foreign assets have been frozen by the US after the Taliban regained power in the country in August following the complete withdrawal of foreign forces from the country.
