US, Qatari officials discuss evacuation from Afghanistan

MONITORING (SW) – Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani held a phone call with Secretary of State of the United States of America HE Antony Blinken on Afghanistan, confirmed an official statement on Monday.

During the phone call, the two sides reviewed the strategic bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, and ways of developing them in various fields, said office of the Qatari deputy foreign minister.

The phone call also touched on with the latest security and political developments in the Afghan file, the nuclear talks, as well as the most important developments in the regional and international arenas, it added.

According to the State Department, Secretary of State thanked Qatar for its continued willingness to assist with the safe transit from Afghanistan of U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents, and Afghan partners.

The Secretary and the Foreign Minister discussed cooperation to promptly resume relocation flights from Kabul and provide lifesaving economic and humanitarian need to the people of Afghanistan. Secretary Blinken and the Foreign Minister also discussed Russia’s unprovoked military buildup near Ukraine’s borders, said the State Department.
