UNSC holds special session on Afghanistan

MONITORING (SW) – The UN Security Council session on the situation in Afghanistan is scheduled to take place Wednesday.

UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, and his Special Representative for Afghanistan, Deborah Lyons will brief the council in the session chaired by the Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Store.

This comes days after Oslo hosted a landmark meeting of the Afghan civil society representatives and the Islamic Emirate officials on situation in the country.

During his visit to Norway, Amir Khan Muttaqi, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate, met with officials of a number of western countries and charities.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi tweeted that the meeting took place today with officials from seven Norwegian charities on the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan in Oslo.

According to him, the representatives of charities at the meeting promised to cooperate with Afghanistan in the fields of health, education, agriculture and livestock, demining and humanitarian aid.

Balkhi added that the acting Foreign Minister showcased the security situation in Afghanistan as a good opportunity and assured the full cooperation of the Islamic Emirate in the delivery and distribution of aid.

Earlier in the day, Acting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate Amir Khan Muttaqi met with a number of Western and European Union representatives during a three-day visit to the Norwegian capital, Oslo.
