IEA rejects Human Rights Watch report

KABUL (SW) – The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has denounced the recent report by the Human Rights Watch about the directives of the Ministry of Promoting Virtue and Prohibiting Evil the Evil.

Inamullah Samangani, one of the deputy spokespersons for the IEA, wrote on Twitter that the claim of the Human Rights Watch that the Islamic Emirate did not address women’s rights was “mere propaganda.” Samangani stressed that the Islamic Emirate is committed to the rights of all citizens of the country, including men and women, and that their right to work and education is protected within the framework of Islamic law.

The Ministry of Promoting Virtue and Prohibiting Evil of the Islamic Emirate has recently issued a written guide for car drivers that states that drivers should not drive women without hijab in the car and that they should not drive more than 45 miles for women without a male companion.

In its report, the HRW said After the Taliban swept back into power in Afghanistan in August, it quickly became clear that women’s rights were in trouble. “Around the country, reports of restrictions on education, employment, and freedom of movement began almost immediately. In September, we began compiling a rolling list of these violations”, said the report.
