Technical glitches remain at Kabul’s international airport

KABUL (SW) – Technical glitches remain at the Kabul international airport hindering most of the flight operations, said officials on Monday.

Maulvi Abdul Hadi Hamdani, head of Kabul International Airport, has said that domestic civilian flights were operating normally through the airport, but foreign flights still face some technical problems.

Hamdani said on Monday in a statement that there remained between 10 to 15% of technical problems at the terminal section of foreign flights. Efforts to address these issues will continue in the next few days, he said.

The head of Kabul airport said that foreign planes from Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Pakistan were still landing at the airport.

Abdul Hadi Hamdani added that Russia and Turkey have also announced that they will resume flights to Kabul airport in the coming days, sending aid to the Afghan people.

The official said that in terms of security, Kabul airport does not face any problems and domestic passengers can travel through this airport without any worries.

Domestic and international flights through Kabul airport were suspended due to Taliban takeover.

Later, domestic flights resumed. Although, foreign flights have not been officially resumed to date, AFP reported that a Pakistan International Airline (PIA) plane with about 10 passengers arrived here on Monday.

In recent days, several foreign planes have landed at Kabul airport to deliver humanitarian aid, but AFP has described the PIA landing at Kabul airport as the first foreign commercial flight since the Taliban took control.
