Stay vigilant against COVID-19 during Eid

KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Public Health has warned of dire consequences for public in case of continued defiance towards safety and hygiene during the ongoing third wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
Mirwais Alizai, deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health, said on Tuesday many citizens did not take the ministry’s recommendations seriously. He said it was feared that their recklessness during Eid visits to friends and relatives would worsen the situation. The health ministry spokesman urged citizens to refrain from visiting each other during the Eid holidays to prevent further spread of the virus.

As per the MoPH officials, situation could particularly worsen in major urban centers with a large and concentrated population points if people did not wore mask or kept distance.



Salam Watandar’s correspondent in eastern Nangarhar province, Omid Didar, reported that people are carrying out their daily routines without heeding the health ministry’s advice to take the coronavirus seriously. “People do not follow the guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Public Health,” he said. “What I am witnessing is that people are roaming around normally and without fear of the coronavirus, and a very small number of them are following safety and hygiene measures, in general, people are very careless towards the pandemic”, he said.

Herat is another large and populous province of the country where many people are behaving in a similar careless way.

Salam Watandar reporter in Herat, Shakeeb Shams reported that in recent weeks, the number of people infected with COVID-19 in the border provinces such as Herat, Kandahar, Nangarhar, Farah, Nimroz and even Kabul, is increasing once again, and what worries people even more is the new variants of the virus. They think the pandemic is over, even the literate people do not follow the health tips”, he said.

As per the latest MoPH figures, 6 more people lost their lives to COVID-19 in past 24 hours and 275 new cases were identified. During the same period, 170 patients improved.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, with the registration of new cases, the number of patients has reached 60,563 while the death toll has surged to 2,648 and the number of recovered has increased to 53,561.
