COVID-19: Highest single day infections, deaths recorded

KABUL (SW) – Afghanistan on Monday recorded its highest single day COVID-19 infections of 1566 and 30 corresponding deaths.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, with this, the cumulative total of known COVID-19 cases surged to 73,256, and the total number of reported deaths is 2,974 while the total number of recoveries stood at 57,630.

 



 

A significant number of the new cases were reported in Kabul (482) followed by Kandahar (151) and Balkh (144). Similarly, up to 19 deaths were reported in Kabul followed by Balkh, Nangarhar and Baghlan with two cases.

Last week, Afghanistan closed down of all universities, schools and other academic institutions as the country recorded highest number of COVID-19 cases.

In February this year, Afghanistan began rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine following World Health Organization’s emergency use approval for the Indian made shots.

 



 

Afghanistan’s health ministry has repeatedly called for more international support for it to help vaccinate at least 20 percent of the estimated population of 38 million this year, and 60 percent by the end of 2022.
