‘Don’t allow Afghanistan turn into bastion for terrorists’

KABUL (SW) – Presidential adviser Mohammad Mohaqiq on Friday said the world should not let Afghanistan turn into bastion for international terrorism.

The People’s Islamic Unity Party of Afghanistan’s leader made these remarks while marking the 10th death anniversary of Daud Daud, the slain commander of the 303 Pamir Zone, and Shah Jahan Nouri, the slain Takhar police chief.

The senior presidential advisor on political and security affairs urged the international community not to be “deceived by those who speak softly and have now changed their faces.” Mohaqiq added that he did not call for war and was ready for peace, but had repeatedly said that the Taliban did not want peace. He emphasized that he remained ready both for war and peace.

Mohaqiq further said that he remained committed towards institutionalizing democracy in Afghanistan. In his remarks, Mohaqiq further said he has realized that the situation was moving in a different direction. He vowed to continue defending the people alongside the government and security forces if there was no peace and the war continued.

According to Mohaqiq, the current situation in Afghanistan is “disorganized” with the withdrawal of international troops, but there was a hope for peace.

He also warned the Taliban not to think that with the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan, the situation will end in their favor.
