‘Government has no cohesive plan for Istanbul conference’

KABUL (SW) – Juma Khan Hamdard, head of the Hezb-e-Islami councils’ union, told a news conference in Kabul on Tuesday that the government has failed to prepare a cohesive plan for the Istanbul peace conference.

Hamdard said the plan presented by the High Council of National Reconciliation is not cohesive and has not been consulted with political parties. “Despite numerous proposals from various factions for peace, so far the Afghan government, the High Council of National Reconciliation and various political currents have not had a single and cohesive plan and have not been able to come up with a unanimous national plan”, he said.

He added if the government does not attend the Istanbul meeting with a unified plan, it is feared that the meeting will not reach the desired result.

Meanwhile, Fereedon Khwazoon, a spokesman for the High Council for National Reconciliation, said the draft presented by the council was a single and comprehensive one, taking into account the views of all political parties. “We have made preparations to attend the Istanbul conference, and we seek to attend it with a single plan”, he said.

According to reports, the Istanbul meeting is scheduled to take place in the Turkish city on April 24.
