Taliban block distribution of aid in Logar

PUL-E-ALAM (SW) – The Taliban have halted distribution of aid in connection with the ‘National Meal’ program in Logar.

Abdul Qayyum Rahimi, the governor of Logar, has said that the Taliban in the city of Pul-e-Alam, the capital of the province, and a number of districts have forcefully stopped the distribution of aid to the needy families through this program. The governor said the Taliban have warned local councils not to cooperate with the government in this regard.

According to governor Rahimi, the non-implementation of this program would make common people more vulnerable. He urged the Taliban should not hinder such program.

The governor added that efforts are being made to resume the aid distribution program to provide necessary assistance to the needy.

On the other hand, a number of poor and needy families in several districts and the city of Pul-e Alam have asked the Taliban insurgents not to create such hurdles. Khairullah and Abdul Latif, two such Logar residents said people are faced with many problems. They demanded the government and the Taliban should not politicize this aid program.

Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban, told Salam Watandar that the ‘National Meal’ program has been suspended due to widespread corruption by government officials.

The ‘National Meal’ program was launched by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani about two months ago across the country to provide food aid to needy people across the country.
