Iran-made military equipment, uniforms seized in Herat

HERAT (SW) – Authorities in Herat vowed to have recovered Iran-made military equipment and uniform from a Taliban base in the province.

Credible local sources in Herat reported the discovery of Iranian-made military equipment and Revolutionary Guards military uniforms from Adraskan district. A Taliban commander Mulla Tor Jan was believed to be in charge of the Taliban in this area.

The operation was launched in the district on Tuesday night and continued until Wednesday morning, said the source.

These credible local sources added that during the destruction of this Taliban base, several Iranian-made bombs exploded. Herat security and local officials have not commented.

The army’s 207 – Zafar Corps in the west of the country has confirmed the launch of operations in Adraskan district by publishing a newsletter, but has not said anything about the discovery of Iranian-made military equipment and Revolutionary Guards uniforms from the Taliban base.

It said in a statement that as a result of this operation, the Taliban information system in Adraskan district was destroyed and 5 suspects with information equipment were arrested by the security forces. During the operation, which lasted for several hours, a number of villages in the district were cleared of Taliban fighters while ammunition and vehicles were seized by government forces, it added.

We could not obtain the views of the Iranian consulate in Herat in this regard. Iran has previously rejected reports about support for the Taliban.

The Taliban have not yet commented.
