Top cop among two killed in Kabul blasts

KABUL (SW) – Capital Kabul on Wednesday witnessed three deadly bomb blasts killing a top cop among two others.

The Kabul Police Command said the first blast did not cause any casualties and that four people were injured in the second blast. According to the Kabul Police Command, in the third explosion in the Baraki area of ​​Kabul, two people, including Mohammadzai Kochi, police chief of the fifth district got killed.

Ferdaus Faramarz, spokesman for the Kabul Police Command, said the first blast occurred at 8:12 a.m. in the Paghman district. In this explosion, a police patrol car was targeted by a magnetic mine. According to Faramarz, in the second explosion, which took place at 8:38 a.m. a car was targeted by another magnetic mine, injuring four people.

The spokesman said that in the third blast, which occurred at 8:55 a.m. near the Barakey intersection, a Land Cruiser was hit by a mine, killing two people, including Mohammadzai and injuring one.

Interior Minister Mohammad Massoud Andarabi has pronounced Mohammadzai Kochi as one of the bravest officers in the country. “He worked day and night to ensure the security of the country … the enemies of the homeland took his life”, he said.

Amrullah Saleh, the first vice president, wrote on his Facebook page that he would avenge Kochi’s death and that his blood would not be wasted.

Analysts have criticizes loopholes in the security and intelligence mechanism resulting in such incidents on regular interval.

Atiqullah Amarkhail, a military expert, believed that launching a nationwide security campaign could improve the situation in Kabul. “There are no innovators within the government. The people in the government are all just following orders”, he said.
