NSA says interim government is plot for constant foreign meddling

KABUL (SW) – National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib has said establishment of an interim government at this moment in time would pave way for foreign meddling in the country.

In a series of tweets, Mohib said the Taliban must now realize that people in Afghanistan now understand the worth of democracy and a system of governance, and would not let foreign agenda implemented here.

“The interim government means a permanent opportunity for foreign intervention. If the Taliban had a roots among public, religious legitimacy and a will of their own, they would have continued intra-Afghan peace talks on the basis of a ceasefire”, he tweeted.

A day earlier, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said an interim government would be detrimental. “The citizens of Afghanistan must be empowered…Where would I get the authority to dissolve the Republic? I have sworn to uphold the constitution,” he added.

This followed the Taliban’s demand for an interim set-up for the peace process to move forward.
