Muallah Baradar meets Iranian FM in Tehran

KABUL (SW) – The Taliban’s deputy Chief Mullah Baradar on Sunday held a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif in Tehran.

The Taliban spokesman, Mohammad Naeem said the meeting was held in a good atmosphere. “… The issues concerning both countries were discussed. Likewise, the situations in Afghanistan, Intra-Afghan negotiations, the full implementation of the Doha agreement and Afghanistan’s & region’s need to peace were discussed”, he tweeted.

Iran’s Tasnim news agency said in this connection that referring to the US actions in Afghanistan, Zarif emphasized that the US is ‘not a good mediator’. “We support an inclusive Islamic government in the presence of all ethnicities and religions and consider it a necessity for Afghanistan.”

In response to the Taliban delegation’s visit to Iran, the Afghan foreign ministry issued a newsletter stating that the Afghan government was aware of the Taliban delegation’s visit to Iran, and that prior to the group’s visit, Iranian government officials had informed.

Abdullah Abdullah, chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation, said the visit was coordinated with the Afghan government.

This comes amid stalled intra-Afghan talks in the Qatari capital, Doha.
